在我们之中有一些教友常常被世间的事物束缚：有如生活状况，人际间的影响，各种不同的习惯 等等。我们不能释放这些事物，往往是因为我们认为它是属于我们自己的；其中最常见的是财富：钱财或是产业。一个人甚至认为与其他需要的人分享财物是不可理喻的。财物对他们来说是命根，以为只有钱财才能买到幸福和快乐。 当我们被钱财束缚时，我们就好像今天福音中所提到的富豪那样，而我们就会忘了生活中什么是最重要的。福音中也提到我们不能同时侍奉两个主人: 天主和财富。虽然福音中的富豪看来循规蹈矩，恪守十诫，但是他的心中没有主的存在，而是被钱财占有了他整个灵魂。试想想看我们本身是否遭遇同样的命运？是否好像富豪那样爱财不爱主？一旦天主召回我们的灵魂，世上的财富是否能一起带走？当然是不可能的。很可能有些人一旦醒悟时已经太晚了。所以我们要认真地想清楚来世所要的是什么：永恒的快乐或是永恒的受苦？
